Adobe is conducting an experiment – a very ineteresting one with Lightroom.
They are testing to see if there is a market for a photo editor that has no capability to do either selections/maskings or any layering. This program is devoted to taking camera RAW or JPG images and cropping, straightening (a little weak here), color correcting, and blemish removing the images. All of this is done non-destructively to the original image – the processed images are put in a separate directory or up on a Web gallery.
In addition once a correction setting is set for one image it can be copied and then applied to several images. Thus photofinsihers can get close quickly to the desired correction for a series of shots taken under the same lighting and camera settings – speeding up processing. There are a passel of additional organizing and workflow processing features for Lightroom; but the essence is this: get one image as close as possible to final finished image as intelligently and quickly as possible. At $299, I am wondering how big a market there is for this type of photo editorat ($189 I would say very large). Watch for the full review here.
