In several articles on this Blog, ye Editor has been advancing the argument that smartphones and tablets are forcing compact camera and SLR makers to up their feature sets at the same or lower prices. Fortunately technology advances at least give the camera makers the opportunity to do so. But now some strong evidence points to the reality of the push – the iPhone is being reported in the NYTimes as the most popular camera on Flickr. As a Flickr member, ye Editor had noticed an uptick in iPhone and other smartphone usage. But it had not really clicked in until the NYTimes story. But now we know the heat that camera makers are feeling.
